‘This Country Would Never Tolerate White Unemployment At 14 Or 15 Percent’
Yet, O’s approval rating among blacks remains at 90 percent
From the Hypocrisy Hall of Fame department: Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder Bob Johnson said last week that the nation (white people) would “never tolerate white unemployment at 14 or 15 percent.”

“This country would never tolerate white unemployment at 14 and 15 percent. No one would ever stay in office at 14 or 15 percent unemployment in this nation, but we’ve had that double unemployment for over 50 years,” Johnson said while speaking at the National Press Club about the gap between whites and blacks in America.
(Memo to Bob: That whole thing about “double unemployment for over 50 years”? That’s exactly how long blacks have been blindly voting Democratic in overwhelming numbers. Coincidence?)
Accepting Johnson’s premise that “this country” (white people) would “never tolerate white unemployment at 14 and 15 percent,” The question – the 800-pound gorilla in the room – is this: Why do blacks tolerate unemployment at 14 or 15 percent? Even more astonishing, why does Barack Obama continue to enjoy blind support in the black community – to the tune of 90% or thereabouts? Surely, it’s not because of the color of his skin, right?
“The national average is 7.7 percent, and African-American unemployment is 13.8 percent. To be honest, it’s probably greater than that when you count the number of African-Americans who have simply given up on finding employment,” said Johnson. (Um, Bob? The same reality applies to unemployed white Americans.)
Johnson said the challenge was to figure out why the unemployment rate for blacks has been so high, “and if that doesn’t change, somebody’s going to have to pay – 34 million African-Americans are not going to leave this country, millions of African-Americans who don’t have jobs.”
“Somebody’s going to have to pay for them. Somebody’s going to have to take care of them, and if somebody’s going to have to take care of them, that money’s got to come from somebody.” (Barack
Obama seen grinning ear to ear and furiously nodding in approval.)
“We can’t be competitive if we don’t put all our people on the field to work and African-Americans can’t be consumers if they don’t have jobs. They can’t buy houses, and the reason the wealth gap is so high, [is] we don’t [have] home ownership. We don’t have savings. We don’t have investments, and part of that is because we don’t have capital,” Johnson said.
He added: “The wealth gap between black Americans and white Americans over the past 20 years has increased from $20,000 to $90,000, according to the Pew Research Center. And again, according to the Pew Research Center, nearly half of African-Americans born to middle-class families in the 60s will never attain the wealth of their parents.”
Maybe a bit of dot-connecting will help Bob figure out the problem.
Which party is in power in California, Bob? New York? Detroit? Cleveland? Philadelphia? Do you see a pattern here, my man? Which party do “(y)our people” blindly support – year in and year out? Which party has made hollow promises to black Americans for over 50 years?
How has the Democratic Party improved the lot of America’s blacks, Bob? One definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.” How’s that worked out for your people? It’s way past time for some soul-searching, Bob. Ask yourselves why you continue to dutifully support a party that panders to you – and exploits you for political gain.
Yeah, I know; I won’t hold my breath.
I’d bet a dollar to a donut that Bob Johnson – like apparently 90% of the black population – absolves O of any blame for the struggling economy and high unemployment rate whatsoever, and places it squarely on the shoulders of Congressional Republicans. (Um, and George Bush.) But here’s the acid test: Were George Bush still president, and the House of Representatives controlled by the Democrats, who would Bob and America’s blacks be blaming?
Moreover, President Bush would not have a 90 percent approval rating among white Americans.
O’s America. Go figure.
