GOP to Obama: Cut Spending Or We Shut Down Government

The fiscal cliff is not over. All Congress did was delay it a couple months, but it is still looming large and set to be the topic of battle between the Republicans and President Obama.

In the first round of ‘negotiations’, the Republicans were forced to accept a number of tax increases that not only hit the wealthy, but also hit everyone in the country. The Democrats were unwilling to budge and then accused the Republicans of being unwilling to negotiate and holding the country hostage.

Now, some Republicans are ready to play by the Democrats’ rules and stand firm on one major issue and not budge until Obama and the Dems give in this time. The topic is spending cuts. President Obama told House Speaker John Boehner that we don’t have a spending problem even though he has spent more than almost all of the presidents before him.

This next round of talks on the fiscal cliff is going to find some Republicans willing to shut down the government if Obama does not concede to drastic spending cuts. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) has gone on record saying:

“I think it is possible that we would shut down the government to make sure Pres. Obama understands that we’re serious.”

Another option being considered by the Republicans would be to allow the government to default on payments for its loans. Either option would have major ramifications that could affect the world economy besides our own.

Supposedly Speaker John Boehner understands the danger of this type of action, but says that he is not sure that he can control some of the more Tea Party oriented members of the house who are threatening a government shutdown. A number of these House Republicans voted against the last fiscal cliff negotiated measure and most certainly will do so again unless Obama agrees to some major spending cuts.

I understand all of the ramifications that everyone says will happen if the government shuts down, but I’m tending to agree with the tea party Republicans that if this is what it takes to force Obama to start being responsible and cut federal spending then that’s what needs to happen. I do feel sorry for the people who may lose unemployment benefits if the government shuts down, but I feel that the time is at hand for drastic measures to force the government to be responsible like any household or business owner would have to be with a limited income.

In the next few weeks we’ll see who’s willing to stand their ground for their principles and who will cave in to the pressures of the other side.

America’s Worst Still America’s Most Admired

In 1917, a man from a middle class Russian family quickly rose to power and became the leader of the newly formed Soviet Union in 1922. His name was Vladimir Lenin and at the time, he was greatly admired by the Russian people. Lenin established a Marxist government where most of the people lost all of their rights and became enslaved by the government. Before his death in 1924, he was no longer admired by the Russian people, but hated instead.

Obama vs Real America

I watched the Town Hall Debate between soon to be former President Barack Obama and soon to be President Mitt Romney Tuesday night. Obama’s responses reminded me of a combination of a Vaudeville and a magic act.
Whenever Obama responded to a question, whether from the audience or from Romney, he tap-danced around the question without saying what real changes he would make in his second term to repair a failed economy and create jobs. He also used sleight of hand to create the illusion of having actually made progress in his current term to improve conditions in the U.S, much like a magician or illusionist does to make you think they really made an airplane disappear on stage.
I noticed that the audience in the debate was supposed to be uncommitted voters, but it seemed fairly obvious that there were a number of Democrats among them who seemed to already have their minds made up. I really wish the guy in this video could have been there at the debate and addressed Obama with the following:

He hammered the nails of reality home by describing what happens in the real world to real Americans. When you raise taxes on the wealthy, they create fewer jobs, not more. When you raise taxes on small business owners, they start firing instead of hiring.
Obama’s plans have business owners scared to invest in their own businesses and hire more people. Obamacare will also add to the expenses of running a business, so combine that with higher taxes and the net results are less jobs and an economy further in decline.

Then this guy wants Obama to explain how raising taxes on the oil companies reduces the price of gas for the rest of us. I really wished that question would have been asked during the second debate because this guy is right. If oil companies have to pay more, then so will we. They are not about to cut anything off their bottom line, no matter how many billions they make in profits. Any increase to them will be passed on to us. Therefore, if Obama is re-elected and gets his way with the oil companies, be prepared to see $5 gas, $6 gas and even higher.

To that, I would have added a question asking why healthcare costs have gone up by $2,500 per family when Obama promised they would go down by that amount.

Yeah, there were a few good questions raised in the debate, but not the right ones. If I were in Mitt Romney’s shoes, I would have been hammering Obama on these questions and others about his failed policies and not relenting until it became clear to everyone that Obama is completely out of touch with real America and has only hurt the people and country. That’s what America needs to see, that there is a war between Barack Obama and real America and America is losing at the moment. We need a David to stand up against the Goliath and knock him out of the White House. Otherwise, we as a nation and a people may be down for the final count.
