"We're talking about no further sales of assault weapons," she said. "What is the justification for an assault weapon? No further sales of those, no further sales of the increased capacity, 30 rounds in a gun. We're re talking about background checks which is very popular, even among gun owners, and, hunters."
"We avow the First Amendment," she added. "We stand with that and say that people have a right to have a gun to protect themselves in their homes and their jobs, where, and that they -- and the workplace and that they, for recreation and hunting and the rest. So we're not questioning their right to do that."
Fox News' Chris Wallace didn’t correct Pelosi, Doug Powers wrote at michellemalkin.com. "[P]ossibly due to fear of the rumored lasers that shoot from her eyes when angered," he added.
Michael Maroney of Red Alert Politics, widely credited for first catching the gaffe, said the error "provides some insight into her view" on gun control.
Warner Todd Huston wrote at Breitbart.com that this isn't the first time Pelosi "showed a lack of familiarity with the Constitution."
"Well, I'm with the 11th Amendment, so... or is it the 11th Amendment that, uh, (laughs)? 14th is it? Whatever it is I'm with the Constitution of the United States," she said last November when asked about the upcoming fiscal cliff deal.
Twitchy said that a number of conservatives on Twitter took Pelosi to task for mixing up the two amendments.
"Nancy Pelosi just said she avows the 1st Amendment for Gun owners! Now if she'd only avow the 2nd!" one person tweeted.
"Pelosi is so dumb she doesn't even know the difference between the 1st and 2nd amendment as she showed typical ignorance on Fox News Sunday," added another.
"Apparently Pelosi thinks the 1st amendment protects our right to bear arms, how on earth did she even find the studio this morning," another Twitter user asked.
