A Letter To Our Elected Officials Mr. President,Members of Congress :

Came across this post from Russel Yeaman and thought many of you would appreciate what he has to say:

Mr. President, Members of Congress, State Legislators, and other elected officials across the nation:

Yes, we all have been horribly impacted by another mentally disturbed individual who has taken with him the innocent lives of children and adult heroes in a school environment. We all mourn for the loss of these precious individuals who met their fate at the hands of a delirious, selfish, cruel individual.

However, the emphasis here is, it was a DISTURBED PERSON that did this. The guns did not fire themselves. You as elected officials and makers of public policy should NOT take advantage of this horrible example of man's inhumanity to man to pursue your own personal political goals. Focus on the reporting by psychiatric personnel to officials about those individuals who they deem dangerous to others, and not the USELESS placement of further restrictions on firearms.

People who commit these crimes will continue to commit these crimes regardless of whatever restrictions exist to keep guns or other "weapons" out of their hands or how many rounds can fit into a magazine. They will obtain them illegally like all the other criminals do in the highest crime rated cities with the most restrictive gun laws. Evil will exist no matter how many laws you enact. In 1927, a man killed 45 children and adults in a school environment with three separate bombs in Bath, Michigan. That remains the worst school related deadly incident in our nation. He was crazy and didn't care about any laws governing the use of explosives.

DO NOT attempt to place more unnecessary burdens on law-abiding citizens in your over zealous attempts "to do something" to counteract the horrible, tragic events of last week in Connecticut, to pursue your personal political agendas. Criminals and deranged people do not care nor follow the law, only law abiding citizens do. Check the facts before you act in a "knee jerk" manner.
