“End Pensions in Congress Act” Proposed by Reps Ron DeSantis And Trey Gowdy

Does this have a chance of passing? Will it even get out of committee and onto the floor? Perhaps we should all call our representatives and demand that this pass. As the article states below, why not let them set up 401ks, just like the rest of us.

Trey Gowdy Delivers EPIC Bad News to Congressmen Leeching Off Taxpayers… They’re Outraged

Friday, February 6th, 2015
It’s stories like these that give Americans much-needed hope that there are still good people with good intentions sitting in Congressional seats, with the best interests of American citizens on their agenda.
Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis and conservative rock star Rep. Trey Gowdy recently proposed new legislation that probably left many career congressmen and senators feeling a little antsy.
The bill was named the “End Pensions in Congress Act” and it will do exactly what it says — end the generous pensions for those who retire from Congress. Four other Republicans along with DeSantis and Gowdy co-sponsored the new legislative proposal. (H/T ViralBuzz)
According to the Congressional Research Service, if you’re elected as a U.S. Senator or Representative, you can secure a pension after serving merely five years once you reach the age of 62. If you started young and put in at least 20 years, you become eligible for a pension at age 50.
As of now, there are 617 retired members of Congress are receiving annual federal pensions ranging from roughly $42,000 to $72,000.
Ky. Rep. Thomas Massie made an excellent point when he stated, “If congressmen want to save for retirement, they should do so with 401K-type plans, rather than rely on taxpayers to take care of them even after leaving Congress. To tackle out-of-control federal spending, Congress must lead by example.”
DeSantis summed up the current problem of taxpayer-funded pensions best when he stated, “The Founding Fathers envisioned elected officials as part of a servant class, yet Washington, D.C. has evolved into a ruling class culture. Pensions for members of Congress represent an inappropriate use of taxpayer money.”
With strong support from power players like Gowdy, there’s no doubt this internally edgy bill will garner support from true conservatives within both chambers of Congress.
Passage of a bill like this one would go an awfully long way to restoring long-lost faith in our elected leaders.
Share this news on Facebook and Twitter if you think the newly elected Congress should do whatever it takes to get this bill passed as a measure of good faith that they’re still working for We The People.
