The God Given Right to Govern is Vested in The Sovereign Authority of the Whole People.
Our Founding Fathers rid themselves of the notion that any leader of a nation had a divine right to rule. All of the Monarchs of Europe held the God-given right to rule until the People wised up and realized that true power comes from the People. Without the consent of the People the right to rule does not exist.
Therefore, if anyone wants to rule or govern in the United States they must abide by, and adhere to, what power the People decided to confer in the Constitution. For any government to be legitimate, the People must consent to the rule of the people who wish to govern. If a government rules without the consent of the People, that government has usurped its authority to rule, and must be altered or abolished.
John Locke (a 17th-century English philosopher whose ideas formed the foundation of liberal democracy and greatly influenced both the American and French revolutions) wrote, "Nor can such a usurper, or any deriving from him, ever have a title till the People are both at liberty to consent, and have the authority consented, to allow and confirm in him the powers he hath till then usurped." (Locke, Second Essay Concerning Civil Government, pp.70-71, par. 198.)
Our Founding Fathers held onto the idea that the people who govern over us are servants of the People. The only persons with the vested power to appoint or remove an elected official are We The People. The real power over any elected official rests entirely with the People.
Alexander Hamilton, one of the major influences on the Constitution, held the same belief that anyone who governs this nation does so only with the consent and grace of the People of the United States, and is accountable to the People for his actions.
There is a divine right of the People of the United States to govern themselves. All power rests with the People, and not with the elected officials fortunate enough to be elected. With any government there must be a supreme and absolute power, but it is the People who control it and not the politicians or political parties.
No one man or group has the right to exercise unlimited power over the People as the Democrats and Republicans have done. Our Creator did not give any one man or group of people the right to govern over others.
When our Constitution was being ratified, many people feared that once power was given to the Federal government they would give to themselves autocratic authority over the People. The election of 2008 serves as a prime example that these fears were not unfounded, because it has actually happened and is occurring right this moment. However, in no uncertain terms does the Federal government hold ultimate authority. This authority belongs entirely to the People of the United States. Despite this fact we have been obliged to suffer the rule of an all powerful Federal government.
Today the highest office in the land has been usurped by a person under false pretenses. The authority of the People, conferred by the Constitution, has been ignored and flaunted. Since the Constitution has not been adhered to or enforced, the power no longer rests in the hands of the People. This is leading our nation toward the rule of an abusive dictatorship.
The People have a Constitutional duty and obligation to oppose such an abusive government, as well as persons or organizations that have enabled such a government to deprive the People the United States of the sole authority and right to govern themselves.
