It’s always good to hear that there is at least one government agency that’s doing its job, working for the people.
But it’s also very discouraging to realize that nothing is likely to come of it.
The General Accounting Office has issued an official report that flat-out states that the Obama Administration broke the law in swapping five Guantanamo Bay terrorist inmates for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl by an Islamic terror group.
“[The Department of Defense] violated section 8111 because it did not notify the relevant congressional committees at least 30 days in advance of the transfer,” the GAO report said. “In addition, because DOD used appropriated funds to carry out the transfer when no money was available for that purpose, DOD violated the Antideficiency Act. The Antideficiency Act prohibits federal agencies from incurring obligations exceeding an amount available in an appropriation.”
In his role as commander in chief, Obama is not only generally responsible for the actions of the Department of Defense, but he and his White House minions initially bragged of his involvement in bringing home an alleged prisoner of war.
The United States “made an ironclad commitment to bring our prisoners of war home,” Obama said at the time of the Bergdahl announcement in the Rose Garden. “It’s who we are as Americans. Today, at least in this instance, it’s a promise we've More been able to keep.”
Too bad he couldn't also keep his promise to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this nation, but since Obama is clearly an “ends justify the means” kind of guy, let’s just assume he knew he was breaking the law again when he traded five murderous villains for Bergdahl.
Let’s also assume that Obama’s people told him that Bergdahl was a traitor who had gone AWOL from his unit and who gives every evidence of being a sympathizer for the Islamist cause — in other words, Obama’s kind of scum.
The only apparent surprise was that the public figured out the scam as quickly as it did.
Now that the GAO has confirmed that Obama broke the law, add it to the long list of high crimes and misdemeanors that we can’t impeach him for because Harry Reid is squatting like a vulture on any legislation that might be bad for his master, King Putt. The Boehner lawsuit doesn't seem any closer to a courtroom, so once again Obama gets away with it, at least for the moment.
