"A Republic If You Can Keep It"

My fourth of July wish is that we recognize the significance Benjamin Franklin's caveat.

In this post, I will not go into the Constitution, the founding fathers, or American exceptionalism. Friends Of Liberty readers are very familiar with these concepts. They also know that our beloved America is under assault from the most deadly of threats—the enemies within.
They are:
1. The low information voters who vote allegiance to the party with no real understanding of the underlying issues,
2. Those who are so consumed with work and family life that they have no time to rely on anything except news blurbs from a biased  MSM,
3. Those who are simply too lazy and lack interest in anything other than their own personal pursuits,
4. Those who genuinely feel that the world can be made better and are unaware of how they are being manipulated by the “powers that be” into supporting a nefarious agenda that has a compassionate face,
5. And those who are actively working toward the downfall of America so as to enact a totalitarian society for the “common good”.

Throughout our history, we have been struggling with these elements in an attempt to maintain our unique character as well as our freedom.
Those dedicated to the gradual erosion of our way of life have been making gains steadily since the beginning of the 20th century.
The ability to do so takes a few generations but success is nearly fool proof if dealing with an unaware and complacent society. Totalitarianism  can be accomplished by undermining and taking control of the five major social institutions of a society: family, education, economics, politics, and religion.

From Examining Social Institutions "Social institutions are enduring relationships that result from human interaction. Over a period of time, these relationships have established predictable patterns that allow the members of society to pursue life, their dreams and happiness. Social institutions are natural products or creations of societies, the primary function of which is to help societies meet basic needs.  They exist in every known society. They overlap, interact, and support one another. It would be impossible to think of a social order without any existing social institution for they serve as the bedrock of human society. There are five major social institutions, namely: family, education, economics, politics, and religion. These institutions have shown continuity and stability for they are products of relationships that have long endured the test of time Other social institutions may have developed out of these major social institutions as we see them existing in society at present.” entire article

Control these and you control the society. How far have we come?
The family has been under attack for decades via the welfare system, the so-called sexual revolution, and the LGBT agenda. From The Weekly Standarda case can be made that the welfare state has competed with the family for primacy from the beginning. It’s a point exquisitely if unintentionally illustrated by the Obama reelection campaign’s infamous “Julia” website, which showed the beneficent state stepping in to do at every stage of life what used to be done by competent families: babysitting, educating, influencing romantic decisions, caring for someone in old age." entire article

Revisionist history in education has been the norm for decades to the point where the average HS graduate today has no knowledge of American history or the uniqueness of this nation. Common Core will finish the job.
From NC policy watch “Atkinson worries that the end result of the set up of a commission that lacks breadth and direction for how it conducts a review of standards could result in lower standards for the state’s students, even though the legislation aims to avoid that.
“Having worked before with the development of standards, one of my biggest fears and I’ve seen it happen is that I see the standards become political, and instead of doing what is best for students, I’ve seen the bowing down to lesser standards,” said Atkinson.
The system that the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) uses to review academic standards on a five-year cycle is a complex one.  entire article

As  for the  economy, need we go into that one in depth. Can we say Obamacare, stifling regulations from the EPA, the impact of public sector unions, cronyism etc. There is a plethora of information on their actions and the impact on growth of our economy, or rather the lack of.
The same can be said for politics. The Democrat party as as we knew it no longer exists. It has  been usurped by the progressive, socialist, Marxists ideologues to the point where our parents and grandparents would not recognize it. The Republican party has also moved left and is not the same as it was in those times. Both parties are guilty of cronyism which has sullied both the economy and the integrity of the political structure
As for religion, we are all aware of the war against Christianity, as well as the appearance of wavering and weakness in many of the churches themselves in regard to many social/moral issues. We have indeed lost our way. Again, there is a plethora of information on that subject.

Patriots, we must stand firmly on our principles and support our republic as the founding fathers meant it to be. Maintain awareness and seek out those who may be willing to learn if given a chance to hear the truth, or at least an alternate view. Do not be intimidated! There are more of us than you think!
