'' COPY OF A LETTER I WROTE TO A NUMBER OF CIVIL RIGHTS GROUPS ''
To whom it may concern
Hello. My name is Darius Radmanesh. I am an American Author and human rights campaigner. I was born in the state of Missouri by a half Cherokee Indian American mother Linda K Mckim, and an Iranian father Husein Radmanesh. I would also like to mention that my late mother came from a long line of human rights activists and campaigners. In fact one direct ancestor a Dr. Reverend James Miller Mckim, was known as the giant of the anti slavery movement both before and during the American civil war. He was also one of the founders and the conductor of the underground rail road, assisting run away slaves to freedom. My late mother her self took part in the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Dear sir/mam, my reason for contacting you is to bring to your attention a certain matter which I personally have been concerned with for some time. This is concerning the term '' Minority '' which has and is still being used so to describe anyone whom is a member of any non white group of citizens with in society. By that I am of course referring to those individuals whom are members of the African American, American Hispanic, American Chinese, American Indian ( Native and Asian ) communities etc. I my self being only a quarter white, as I have stated my late mother was half Native American and my father full blooded Iranian. Therefore to be honest I personally find the term '' Minority'' to be very offensive, for the simple reason that it automatically implies '' Segregation '' and to be frank I find the term to be quite frank highly racist. Basically if an individual is an American ( natural or not ) he or she should be referred to as a fellow American plain and simple. Not African American, Chinese American, or Hispanic American etc. Only American. Because if all members with in society are truly perceived as equal before the law, then there is no need for them to be categorised as separate distinctive entities?, am I not correct?. In any event I wanted to bring this matter to your attention and to respectfully ask for your thoughts on this matter. I thank you for your time and patients, and I am looking forward to your correspondence.
Thank you
Yours sincerely
