Obama, the Narcissist in Chief, is well protected by members of the so called "intelligentsia" who exhibit all of the traits of their idol--Narcissism. For a more detailed read on that subject go here The left, particularly "academia", loves theory no matter how inapplicable it may be in the real world, because it is largely a product of its own brain. The humanities & social sciences are rife with such theorists who research, teach, pontificate, and publish but never seem to grasp the dynamics of the real world. They become self absorbed to the point of intellectual calcification, and they cannot possibly entertain the thought that there are other legitimate points of view by those who have experienced real life. All who disagree with them are summarily dismissed as part of the "unwashed". The left simply ignores what does not meld smoothly into its belief system--no matter how obvious the facts may be. Whenever cornered, it simply reverts to personal denigration and character assassination because, for many of its stances, it simply has no real arrows in its quiver. Those of us who have argued with a progressives/leftists are well aware of how such "discussions" inevitably end. What the leftist intelligentsia cannot grasp is that real people can easily see them for what they are--individuals who can be attractive and facile, but radiate an underlying haughtiness that bespeaks of utter disdain towards "the others".
From The Virginian |"Another wit observes that an intellectual is someone who so prefers theory over experience that he would sit down on a red-hot stove, twice. You can be too smart for your own good, and have the blisters on your bottom to prove it.
Working-class stiffs, the people an earlier generation of political scientists called “Joe Sixpack,” having earned their blisters and calluses by heavy lifting, are too smart to take a seat on the red-hot stove even once.

Having been to some big towns and heard some big talk, they were too
smart by miles to be taken in by a smooth-talking butter and egg man
from Chicago.
“It’s not that I think he is not a patriot,” says Mr. Murray, “but
remember the line, he said, ‘You didn’t build that.’ No American is
going to think you can say that, no matter what your political views
are, because it’s just disastrous to say that. He is clueless about this
country in some profoundly disturbing ways.”
How could he not be clueless about his native land, when he absorbed
anti-American venom in his tender and formative years as a child in the
Third World? He was deprived of the instincts and cultural intuitions
that are the native son’s birthright." Read the entire article here. source
