Honoring Those Who Served

The American Red Cross encourages all eligible blood donors to give blood during the month of May to honor those who have served our country and in memory of loved ones.
Memorial Day traditionally kicks off the busy summer season, a time when blood donations typically slow down and supplies can drop. The Red Cross is asking donors to make a point to kick off their summer by helping to give the gift of life to patients who depend on blood transfusions.

Patients don't get a holiday from needing blood. The need for blood is constant. Nearly every two seconds someone in America needs blood. That's why your blood donation is so important. Blood is used for patients undergoing many surgical procedures, organ transplants, trauma and chemotherapy. For some patients, like accident victims, the need for blood is sudden. For others, ongoing transfusions are needed.

All blood types are currently needed, with a special need for O negative. If you are wondering what you can do to honor our heroes, and be a hero to someone else, please donate blood this month and help give the gift of life. Give blood in honor of those who serve our country and in memory of loved ones. Your one blood donation may help save up to three lives.
