The Mortal Breath of God (a Sonnet)

The mortal breath of man is finite bound;
There are only are a few and then no more.
Then death ordained must finally come around
To bare the mystery beyond the door.
The heart of man does tremble at the thought
That nothing could be waiting patiently,
Yet those who know the way that God has wrought
Will walk the path of immortality.
The way, the truth, the life is Jesus Christ,
In which our Maker claimed all righteousness.
The wages of our sin He paid the price,
Then died but rose again we must confess.
            Our Saviour conquered death so you may live
            Beyond the mortal breath, His love to give.

In the way of righteousness there is life;
along that path is immortality.
