Ever since the birth of the TEA Party movement in 2010, the mainstream media and Democrats have been trying to marginalize and distort the purpose of the movement. It simply means the voters are saying Taxed Enough Already, and that includes legislation and regulations forced down the throats of the American people.
When Dave Brat won an upset primary victory over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, many reporters and news commentators were quick to label Dave Brat the Tea Party candidate. Even Dave Brat said that he won with a lot of Tea Party support, but he was not exclusively a Tea Party candidate.
Dave Brat said he ran on principles that coincide with Tea Party principles – namely less government, less taxation, abide by the Constitution, free markets and individual responsibility. These principles are shared by more than just people who have attended a Tea Party rally or, are officially members of a Tea Party group.
These principles are an attitude about how government should be run. They are consistent with our nation's Founding Principles. People who believe in these principles are not the extreme right-wing-wacko anti-government kooks that Senator Harry Reid and the liberals want the public to believe they are.
News reporters and commentators like to use labels because it's convenient, but they also present a target for opponents to demagogue, attack and try to intimidate.
No one has used the attack and demagogue tactics more than Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. They and others do so because the Tea Party attitude gave control of the House to Republicans in 2010, and they want to minimize any Tea Party impact in the upcoming November 2014 congressional elections.
Republicans could gain control of the Senate in November with the help of the Tea Party movement, while the Democrats try to tarnish the Tea Party image.
Freshmen senators like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have been viciously criticized for being elected as Tea Party senators who stand up for what those Tea Party people want in government. It does not matter to Democrats that they are representing the majority will of the people and are willing to fight hard for these principles. The Democrats and some Republicans want them to assimilate into the "political class" peacefully. They are rocking the boat!
A reporter asked me recently if the Tea Party movement was losing its impact. Her perception was based on the fact that there had not been a lot of congressional incumbent upsets in the primary election season so far.
I responded that the impact of the Tea Party was not declining just because it had not manifested itself in primary election victories, or that there weren't as many rallies as there were when the movement started. Many Tea Party groups are directing more of their energy and resources to voter education initiatives and grassroots efforts.
But few people had noticed that the Tea Party attitude had caused some incumbents to sound more conservative in their narrative to escape the wrath of defeat. Still others had not noticed that Tea Party groups are also spending more time holding members of Congress accountable when they stray from those Tea Party principles.
Tea Party is an attitude, and Tea Party people do have an attitude!
They are not going to allow the Democrats to destroy this country without a fight.
