Gallup has a poll out today ahead of the April 15 tax-filing deadline showing that, when it comes to paying taxes, independent voters are far more likely to agree with Republicans than they are with Democrats:
None of this comes as a surprise. But Gallup has really buried the lede here. Check out the right hand column, which shows that 5 percent of Democrats think their federal income taxes are “too low.”
So one out of every 20 Democrats thinks they should be forced to surrender more of their incomes to the federal government, whom they presumably trust will spend it wisely. Obviously, that number is far too high.
A remarkable demographic, that 5 percent (which happens to include just about every Democratic member of Congress). One can assume that many of them of are fans of Elizabeth Warren, the multi-millionaire Harvard professor and left-wing politician who became a YouTube sensation for explaining that public roads are funded by tax dollars.
Warren’s belief that one-percenters like her should pay a higher “fair share” than they already do is so strong that in 2012 she opted to voluntarily pay a higher state income tax in Massachusetts, an actual option that exists in the state she represents.
Oh wait, she didn’t.
“I paid my taxes, and I did not make a charitable contribution to the state,” Warren said when asked about the discrepancy between her actions and her pro-tax ideology.
To be fair to Warren, liberals are far more generous than conservatives when it comes to giving “charitable contributions” to actual charities.
Oh wait, they aren’t.
As Nicholas Kristof lamented in a New York Times column titled “Bleeding Heart Tightwads,” studies show that liberals give between 30 percent and 50 percent less to charity than conservatives do. Charitable giving is highest in red states, and lowest in Northeastern states like Massachusetts.
But the Left’s anti-charity agenda consists of far more than simply refusing to donate money, as evidenced by the actual real-life protest organized in opposition to David Koch’s $100 million donation to a New York City hospital.
Five-percenters are the worst.
