In 1963 School prayer and Bible Recitation (reading) was declared unconstitutional by the United States supreme Court, although the law had required Biblical reading at the start of each public school day. It was not mandatory for students to participate but defendants in this case argued that unless religious exercises were permitted a religion of secularism could be established in schools.
The court disagreed. IN 1995 the German Court ruled that Crucifixes mounted on the walls of Public Schools were unconstitutional. (a grim reminder of the Third Reich’s plan to forbid the Cross and all other symbols of religion as exposed by President Roosevelt in 1941. It is no surprise then that with the safety value of confession and the sanctity of religion discredited, many today live spiritually deprived lives, burdened with unrelieved quilt; insecurity and self doubt; A study of 1,291 school readers in use between 1776 and 1920 illustrates how public education shifted from a religious and moral emphasis to the virtual anarchy it is today.
The study found 100% emphasis on moral and religious contents from 1776 to 1786. Approximately 50% emphasis on religion and morality from 1786 to 1825 but only 21% from 1825 to 1860. Then only 5% from 1916 to 1920. (the roaring 20’s) Today the percentage is so small it is immeasurable.
