#4 Beginning of Church Decline:
In the 60’s and 70’s Community Health Centers used the churches as a resource. One study on the pastoral counseling activities of the clergy in the United States, found the pastoral counselors, although similar in background to the traditional clergy, emerged as a professional counseling group and were demonstrated to value and use all major psychiatric techniques short of prescribing the medication.
Conversely, more than three fourths of the traditional clergy, evangelical clergy, and pastoral counselors, and more than half of African American clergy, claimed they had never received a referral from the regional community mental health centers. So, as already depicted the 1960’s marked the beginning of the decline in church attendance and church membership. This is coincident in time with the introduction of Community Mental Health Centers.
As will be discussed later, this church decline was also coincident with psychiatric programs being implemented into public schools.(PLS: How subtle through 60 to 70 years from the first introduction of 1899 by David Montgomery’s History text index introduction.) With the State Mandatory Health Insurance Coverage for mental health in the 80’s the number of christian psychiatric facilities rapidly expanded.
Raphael (Hebrew word meaning healing) Christian Counseling programs expanded from one in 1986 to 32 psychiatric inpatient programs in 17 hospitals by 1991. This acceleration was greatly assisted by many christian media outlets as their promotional emphasis shifted from work shop and religious values to free advertising for psychology and psychiatry.
By the 90’s subjugation complete! Today it has become a secular profit driven enterprise.
