I studied the Declaration of Independence and the US and Pennsylvania State Constitutions. I formed a local grassroots group as a branch of Eagle Forum and received literature from Phyllis Schlafly. I learned more in detail about the book, “Child Abuse in the Classroom” when my Mother, Clara Comer, who was a member of our local branch of Eagle Forum, received a signed copy from Phyllis in recognition of her dedication to full time homemaking. The book highlights testimonies of grieving parents collected by Schlafly. She is known across America as the Sweetheart of the Silent Majority. 

She is the author of more than a thousand syndicated columns, has a monthly newsletter as president of Eagle Forum with grassroots groups branched throughout America; has delivered many TV and radio commentaries and has testified before 50 congressional and state legislative committees. She died in 2016 but her works follow her. She was listed by Good Housekeeping as one of the 10 most admired women in America.

In the Forward of her book she writes: “A remarkable and real life drama took place in seven American cities in March of 1984. Hundreds of parents traveled to one of seven locations to testify at US Department of Education hearings on proposed regulations for the protection of Pupil’s Rights Amendment. More than 1300 pages of testimony were recorded by court reporters as parents, public school teachers, and interested citizens spelled out their eye witness accounts of the psychological abuse of children in the public schools. They related how classroom courses have confused school children about life, about standards of behavior, about moral choices, about religious loyalty and relationships with parents and with peers. 

There is no good way to summarize the anger and disappointment expressed by these grieving parents about what is going on inside public schools today. Each testimony should be read itself to learn the specific facts of what has actually happened and to hear the authentic expressions of parental love and indignation of what is being done in the name of education.
