Mexico Trying to Punish Texas for Border Laws. They Just Got Crushing Wake-Up Call Instead
That, of course, doesn’t sit well with Mexico, which relies on all those illegal immigrants to send American dollars back to the cash-strapped country.The State of Texas is fully on board with President Trump’s plan to curb illegal immigration.After all, no other state but maybe California suffers as much from people illegally crossing the border.
So, the Mexican government joined a number of Texas “sanctuary cities” in suing the state government for passing a law enabling law enforcement to better combat illegal immigration.
The Daily Caller reports:
Mexico filed an affidavit Monday in support of a lawsuit against the implementation of a Texas law to punish sanctuary cities and allow police officers to inquire about the immigration status of someone they have arrested or detained.
The Mexican government said in a statement that the law could increase racial discrimination and create an environment of persecution…
Before we move on – this is a clear example of a foreign government trying to directly interfere with US law. Liberals howl about supposed Russian interference but are silent about Mexico trying to help illegals enter our country. Go figure…
Back to the point at hand – Mexico may have another reason to be so upset about the new Texas law.
It turns out all those other Central and South American immigrants who used to sneak their way into the US are now plopping their unemployed butts down in Mexico.
Again, The Daily Caller reports:
Migrants from Central American countries are increasingly choosing to resettle in Mexico as the Trump administration’s tough immigration enforcement policies make the U.S. a less accessible destination.
For years, Mexico has largely been a waypoint for people from the so-called Northern Triangle countries — Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — who were trying to cross into the U.S. and petition for asylum.
As the U.S. has cracked down on illegal immigration at the border and tightened its rules on accepting asylum claims, those migrants are now staying put in Mexico.
As a result, Mexico’s refugee applications have risen dramatically over the last three years.
Mexico could work with Trump to eliminate this problem and work out better trade agreements for the betterment of both countries.
But they prefer the lazy approach. And now they’re paying for it, BIG TIME.
