Trey Gowdy says corrupt FBI official could be gone within days
Rep. Trey Gowdy, the firebrand Republican from South Carolina, predicted on Friday that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe could be looking for another job as soon as this week.
’ll be a little bit surprised if he’s still an employee of the FBI this time next week,” Gowdy told Fox News host Martha MacCallum.
Impartiality is the Standard
Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, indicated that Bureau agents like McCabe are held to a standard of impartiality in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
He told MacCallum:I’m still trying to figure out why three FBI agents are discussing politics in the Deputy Director’s office because you’re not supposed to discuss politics on federal ground. And FBI agents aren’t supposed to engage in politics for Hatch Act reasons.
Remember, we were supposed to interview Andy McCabe yesterday on another committee. It was all setup and ready to go and then at the last minute they said he can’t come Tuesday, he’ll come next week. I’ll be shocked if he comes next week. I’ll be a little bit surprised if he’s still and employee of the FBI this time next week.
But the notion that three Bureau agents would be conspiring or plotting on how to handle the outcome of a presidential election is the opposite of what you want in an objective, dispassionate, neutral FBI.
In his answer to MacCallum, Gowdy was referring to one of numerous text messages from FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was a team member of Robert Mueller’s, to his extramarital lover, FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

Rebuilding the Bureau
In response to this and other reports of agency bias, President Donald Trump commented on the state of the nation’s top law enforcement agency in remarks to reporters while on his way to deliver his address to an FBI graduation ceremony on Friday in Quantico, Virginia.
Considering the FBI’s reputation at the moment, this is a low bar to jump. But perhaps the rebuilding will begin at the top — starting with McCabe.
