Trump dossier author met with senior Obama official during campaign

When the sensational “Trump Dossier” was first discredited after its debut on Buzzfeed, many laughed it off as an attempt to smear Donald Trump. No one is laughing anymore.

Congressional investigators discovered that knowledge of the Democrat-funded dossier was not just limited to low-level officials in the Obama administration. Bruce Ohr, the associate deputy attorney general, met with the dossier’s creator Christopher Steele during the 2016 campaign, according to Fox News.

Shortly after the election, Ohr also met with Glenn Simpson, co-founder of Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm that hired Steele to create the dossier. Fusion GPS was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and, during the primaries, by GOP donor Paul Singer, a noted “Never-Trumper.”

Connections to the Mueller Probe
The connection between Ohr and Steele was uncovered by a House investigative committee.

Fox reports:

Fox News has learned that evidence collected by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., indicates that Ohr met during the 2016 campaign with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the “dossier.”

Additionally, House investigators have determined that Ohr met shortly after the election with Glenn Simpson, the founder of Fusion GPS …

The fact that Ohr met with Simpson after the election is telling. In 2016, Ohr maintained an office right next to acting attorney general Sally Yates. Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch has uncovered the fact that Andrew Weissmann, the leading prosecutor on Robert Mueller’s Russian probe team, sent Yates a congratulatory email after she refused to carry out President Trump’s travel ban.

Another member of Mueller’s team, investigator Jeannie Rhee, previously provided legal representation to the Clinton Foundation and the former national security advisor for President Obama, Ben Rhodes. Rhee formerly worked in Obama’s Justice Department and was a big Democrat donor; she maxed out her donations to the Hillary campaign in 2015 and 2016, according to Fox News.

An even bigger scandal is developing involving FBI agent Peter Strzok. Over the summer, Strzok was kicked off Mueller’s investigation for sending anti-Trump tweets to his mistress. The media later uncovered the fact that Strzok had been a key investigator in the FBI’s botched handling of Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

In light of these factors, conservative media outlets have renewed their calls for Mueller’s probe to end.

Demoted
When officials in the Obama administration learned about Ohr’s involvement with Fusion GPS, he was demoted from his position as the assistant deputy attorney general. Federal officials later moved him to the Justice Department’s organized crime and drug enforcement task forces.

As far back as July 2016, the FBI has reportedly relied on Steele’s dossier to legitimize its probe of Russian interference in the election. The fact that this dossier is nothing more than a political smear should open the door to full-scale investigations of both the Mueller team and those Obama officials who knew about the dossier’s creation.

It is becoming harder and harder for Russian probe investigators to claim that their investigation is not motivated by political bias.
