Daily Bites of Child Abuse in the Classroom by Phyllis Schlafly :

Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly:
# 6 Highlights of 1300 Pages of Testimonies at 1984 Dept. of Education hearings:
Page 12 These hearings explain why the American people are so dissatisfied with our public schools today. These are highlights of the actual testimonies of the seven hearings on seven cities conducted in March 1984 by the US Department of Education. These hearings explain why we have 23 million adults illiterate who graduated from public schools and why young people are experiencing high rates of teenage suicide, loneliness, premarital sex, and pregnancies. These hearings explain how schools have alienated children from their parents, from traditional morality, such a the Ten Commandments and from our American Heritage.

These hearings explain why children are so emotionally and morally confused and need to search for their identity. these hearings explain what children have been doing in the class rooms instead of learning to read, write, spell, add, subtract, and learn the essentials of history, geography, and civics. These hearings explain how children learn in school to be sexually active, take illegal drugs, repudiate their parents, and rationalize immoral conduct when it feels right in particular situations.

These hearings speak with the thunderous voice of hundreds of parents who are angry about how their children have been emotionally, morally, and intellectually abused by psychological and behavior experiments during classroom hours when the parents thought their children were being taught basic knowledge and skills. Parents are indignant at the way education “change agents” spending federal tax dollars have used children as guinea pigs for fads and experiments that have been substituted for real learning.

  1. That has been a concern of mine for many years and I've written articles about it some years back and tried to get people who read it to understand what the children in our schools were being taught. I warned them to be actively engaged in their children's life; especially in their school life. I pleaded with parents to go to their schools often to observe classes, check out the books in their library and ask for a copy of their curriculum. It's their children, they should have the right to do that. If they are prevented from doing any of those things, they should take an active part in fighting for that right. I don't know how many read those articles, but it really doesn't matter because I'm only one person and not well known. I just hoped that someone would read it and decide to get people in their family and/or neighbors to make sure their schools were teaching what they should be teaching and not trying to indoctrinate them. Parents need to do that today, more than ever but getting that message across to the right people is difficult, especially with all the censoring going on. Poor education and indoctrination going on in our schools is one of the most important problems we have in America. We should be number one in education but we are graduating so many who are illiterate and have little knowledge, if any, about our country, it's beginning or it's history and frankly, have no interest in it. Those are the kinds of adults we are putting out into the world. Even our school systems have become politicized. That needs to change. Sorry for my rant. I just think it is very important but I don't see anything being done to change it.
