We Will Hold A Vote To Override President's Obamacare Repeal VetoHouse Speaker Paul Ryan said Friday the House will hold a vote later this month to override President Barack Obama’s veto of the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. The bill is designed to unravel major components of Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood for a year.
The bill was sent to the president’s desk Tuesday, and would eliminate the individual and employer mandates, kills the Cadillac tax and medical device tax — which were recently delayed for two years under a provision in the omnibus spending bill — and defund Planned Parenthood for a year.
Ryan said passing the measure provides a clear path to repealing the president’s landmark health care law — which has raised premiums for most Americans, increased costs for small businesses and caused many American to lose access their doctors — when a Republican is elected to the White House.
“It’s no surprise that someone named Obama vetoed a bill repealing Obamacare,” he said in a statement. “But we will hold a vote to override this veto, taking this process all the way to the end under the Constitution.”
