Water and Hillary Clinton’s scorched earth equality

by

Steve Yuhas lives in La-La Land. He has a great income, pays high taxes, owns a better-than-average home and has the scratch to maintain its curb appeal. But Steve believes you should get what you pay for, which is another way of saying you should get what you can afford. And what Steve can afford is water.
“No, we’re not all equal when it comes to water,” he told the Washington Post, saying he and his well-to-do Rancho Santa Fe neighbors “should not be forced to live on property with brown lawns, golf on brown courses or apologize for wanting their gardens to be beautiful.”
The problem is that Steve lives in progressive California, which finds itself mired in drought. And the state’s chief executive is Gov. Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, who issued — what else? — an executive order. It mandates a 25 percent reduction in water use and mandates replacing “50 million square feet of lawns throughout the state with drought tolerant landscaping in partnership with local governments,” requiring “campuses, golf courses, cemeteries and other large landscapes to make significant cuts in water use.”

Brown intends to enforce his imperial edict by ordering that “local water agencies adjust their rate structures to implement conservation pricing.” That is imperial-speak for raising rates as water dwindles.
Brown intends to save thirsty Californians by drowning them in high water bills.
But California’s drought situation provides yet another example of the pizzle-sprung left’s propensity “never to let a crisis go to waste,” or provide solutions that fail to solve said crisis but that somehow manage to increase government revenue and power.
And what is true for California’s brown lawn owners is true for the nation’s unemployed and stagnant wage-earners. “Prosperity can’t be just for CEOs and hedge fund managers,” said Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. “Democracy can’t be just for billionaires and corporations. Prosperity and democracy are part of your basic bargain, too.”
Like Brown, Hillary wants Americans to share the misery. That is all redistributive government can provide in abundance, because it takes while producing nothing. When Hillary couples the term “prosperity” with democracy, she means the use of the ballot box as the thief’s preferred instrument of entry – like a trash can thrown through a store’s plate-glass window before a looting rampage.
Democracy has no more to do with prosperity than it does freedom. After all, impoverished Greeks and Venezuelans vote. They voted for redistributive government. They aren’t getting any richer. But these governments are certainly growing in power as their people continue to starve.

This form of unrestrained democracy pits one gang against the other. And the winner literally takes all from the loser. And for most Greeks and Venezuelans, the loser hasn’t all that much to take.
And with global economic growth shrinking, the world’s winning democratic gangs are running out of OPM… Other People’s Money.
Recently, Hillary proposed that all Americans be automatically registered to vote after turning 18 years of age. She insisted that failing to force more uninformed voters to the ballot box represented a “sweeping effort to disempower and disenfranchise people of color, poor people and young people from one end of our country to another.”
That is an old, rich, white political hacks way of saying America’s minorities and poor are lazy and shiftless serfs who need to be conscripted into the Democratic Party’s peasant army, the one waging war on freedom and prosperity in the name of “equality.”
Philosopher John Locke provided America with its defining understanding of true equality: “All mankind… being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.”

Thomas Jefferson called this principle of equality a “self-evident” truth. The moment one believes he has the right to impose his will upon another, to rob him of his liberty and possessions, he places himself above all others. A display of separate and unequal royal arrogance – even if he is clad in nothing but filthy rags.
Progressive demagogues and democratic mobs can’t create prosperity any more than Gov. Jerry Brown can make rain. And they can’t help America break free from its economic drought.
But they will assure that like California’s Steve Yuhas, we are all equal in one regard: we’ll all end up standing on scorched earth.
