Never before in the history of mankind had the actions of a few brave souls resulted in the creation of a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal (sorry Abe). It was on a grand scale that the thinking men of the day spent many years honing the notions and sharing/debating/sweating over that new creation.
The Federalist Papers were part of their effort to shape the nation, to finesse the fabric which they had so skillfully woven into that representation of what they believed God had inspired them to attain. This nation would be a reflection of the values of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and it was to clarify the original thinking and to set straight some notions that had been tossed about that resulted in these great thinkers putting pen to paper and explaining what the nation meant and what "these States" had merged together to form.
It was not the giving up of power and independence to a federal entity, it was a bold statement of the facts of which recent history had shown them. Never again would a distant, removed and remote entity rule over the common man.
These States would come together "united in purpose", clearly defined and delineated in its limits and its responsibilities to the people and the rights of the people and responsibilities expected in the interactions one with another. Lives were sacrificed willingly to this endeavor, whole lineages were broken, histories were ended, but the hopes, dreams and determination to be free men, able to worship as they chose, taxed for the common good but always in control of those whose representation was a sacred trust. This was the beginning of a great experiment, a nation that called on God for His blessing and the promise of fealty to Him and Him alone.
Study the Federalist Papers and understand the brilliance of those whom we celebrate today as worthy of praise and worthy of emulation. Do not let their sacrifices be given in vain, do your part to secure the future of this Republic against all enemies domestic or otherwise. Ask God to show you who you might trust and who you must steer clear of.
