We take one US Army Combat Division and one US Marine Combat Division (Active Duty) along with one Army National Guard Combat Division, 24th Infantry and place the Marine Division along the border beginning at the Pacific Coastline in San Diego. On their eastern (left) flank, the Active Duty east to the Gulf near Port Isabel, Tx. These Active Duty Divisions would immediately place approximately 24,000 - 30,000, depending on which Divisions, Combat personnel on the border.
The National Guard Division, along with Brigade Combat Teams from outside of the Division, would augment the Active Duty Divisions conducting Annual Training. This Division also has a strength of approximately 14,000 Soldiers. A Brigade Combat Team has from 5,500 to 7,000 Soldiers. These National Guard Soldiers would be deployed along the border from the Eastern (left) flank of the Active Duty Army Division to Port Isabel. So now we are up to around 35,000 to 40,000 Combat Personnel. COMBAT Personnel doing just what the Constitution mandates, protecting the borders of the United States of America.
How do we feed, clothe, provide medical support for these personnel?? I'm glad you asked!!!
The US Army Reserve, the Marine Corps Reserve would conduct their primary mission, Logistical, Medical, Transportation, Subsistence for all Troops.
That's a pretty big border, but this number of Personnel would be continuous, they would not be any stretches of the border where personnel would be out of sight of other forces.
Still, there is more! The US Air Force would fly training Recon missions all along the border, day and night. Eyes in the sky would see all movement from above.
How about the Pacific and Atlantic Coastlines? Funny you should ask.
The US Navy would conduct Training Patrols along the coasts augmented with the Coast Guard, which would be freed up to conduct Ship Boarding and Inspections with a US Naval Vessel of War providing security. The Navy Reserve would do just like the Army and Marine Corps Reserve in providing all Support missions. The Navy would also conduct the same operations in the Gulf of Mexico along with the Coast Guard.
So, here we have something along the lines of 40,000 to 50,000 Combat Personnel BOOTS on the ground, supported from the Air and the Sea by Combat Personnel as well. All LOGPAC issues handled by the Reserve Component.
These Military Personnel would be able to take leave, attend training and professional development schools, rotate along the border and return to their home duty station on a regular time frame. NO extended deployments of 12 -18 or 24 months.
SO, now we are up to about 80,000 - 100,000 personnel totally securing the border including the support personnel.
AND now the billion dollar question that you have been waiting for!!
HOW MUCH WILL ALL OF THIS COST THE TAXPAYER????
Get ready for it....
Wait for it....
Here it comes....
ZERO......
WHAT????
A BIG GOOSE EGG!! ZERO!!
HOW CAN THAT BE???
It's very simple....the US Military is already completely 100% funded for all State side missions and training! As Mandated by the United States Constitution....ALL National Guard and Reserve Units are totally funded every year for training and schools and logistics. There are 1,429,995 Active Duty Personnel and 850,880 Reserve Personnel in the United States Military.we are talking about at the most 100,000 personnel conducting their most important Constitutional Directive out of 2,500,000 Military Personnel....with no increase in Taxpayer Funding....
SO SIMPLE, EVEN A LIBERAL CAN UNDERSTAND IT....
What do you think of this?? It would need to be under the Command of a Three Star General, as the Army Divisions would be Commanded by a Two Star, and the Navy and Air Force personnel would have at least a One, probably a Two Star Flag Officer Commanding. So at least a Three Star would be overall Commander. Army or Marine General, as Ground Forces need to be under that type of Flag.
