Proof of Love

We sin as if it's all we know to do,

Especially before Christ touched our souls,

But while we rolled in sin without a clue

Our Saviour long ago was in control.

God loves us knowing how we really are;

He sent His only Son to bleed and die.

Before we lived Christ bore the heavy scar;

Before we're saved God's promise did apply.

Not one of us deserve redemption's kiss,

But God knew that and still He sent His Son.

The greatest prophets were one time amiss,

No better than the meanest man undone.

            God proved His love for us upon the cross;

            Christ died that we might live to come across.

But God commendeth his love toward us,

in that, while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.
