On Pride

Of all the sins, the hardest one to hide
Puffs up the chest and so turns up the nose.
Inflated sense of self is foolish pride,
Like weeds that tell their friends they are a rose.
Twas pride that brought down Lucifer to Hell,
And Adam's ruin to want to be like God.
Goliath was a giant 'til he fell
By humble David's sling thrown with a nod.
From dust you came and dust you will return,
And all you think as yours is crushed in time;
To God give all the glory, this He's earned,
Creator of the grand and the sublime.
Whenever you feel pride invade your heart
Give credit to the Lord right from the start.

Pride comes before destruction,
and an arrogant spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18
