Like John the Baptist

O you of doubt, of silent fear,
look up from the shadow of your private despair.
Behold the light! Let it pierce your soul,
feel it scrub away the scabs of uncertainty
until the blood of new life flows like fresh tears.
Here the air is thin and clean;
You can see forever from this height,
where eagles ride the wind upon a cloudless, endless day.
Close your eyes and your heart will leap out of its prison
and grow feet, to bring a promise of joy
like John the Baptist.
The heart knows what the mind cannot.
Listen to that beat, my weary friend.
Once you thought it was thunderclaps of doom;
now hear the incessant shout of angels:
"Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!"
Fear and doubt cannot exist
in this sweet atmosphere of salvation.
Breathe in the Grace of the Lord;
breathe out the Good News.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
Isaiah 52:7
