Dirge #04: The Arrogant

"Let me use small words so you'll understand," the haughty man said down his nose;
you can tell arrogance miles away with someone who just always knows.
Beware, one of conceit, who thinks your dung smells sweet!
You'll soon see a day when you smell of decay,
you will find yourself out on the street!
"Just look at those heathens," she said out the side of her collagen-thick painted lips;
she was too good to breathe their sin-tainted air as her head nearly caused an eclipse.
Beware, with a letter you think you are better!
You're no better than others, your arrogance smothers;
you may own more now but you're still just a debtor.
"I would never be seen with that kind of girl," the preppy young man said to friends;
he sneaks out at night to find whores and drugs, and the means justify the ends.
Go away, hypocrite, your soul is unfit!
There's only Hell for you when judgment is due,
and you'll find yourself deep in its pit!
Make yourself humble, you're much lower than God, so submit all your being to Him.
Just go to Christ broken, alone on your knees, with your sins piled up to the brim.
You must be contrite; fear God and His might!
Change your superior attitude with only your gratitude,
God still loves you, concede to His light.

2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money,
proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents,
ungrateful, unholy,
heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control,
brutal, not loving good,
treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit,
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.
Avoid such people.
2 Timothy 3:2-5
