"I love my children, my church, my
God," said a woman with her arms open wide;
Beware, lovers of self, who put your name high on
the shelf!
A day will soon come when you will be glum,
You'll have nowhere to go but yourself!
"It's all about me," the man bragged
out loud, his chest puffed up full with his pride;
he didn't see the poor boy on the street 'cause
his ego was as blind as his stride.
Beware, egocentric soul, who think you are whole!
You'll get your reward when you are ignored,
for you no more world to control!
"I, I, I, me, me, me" is the mantra of
self, and can be spotted as easy as rain;
there is no room for God and His realm, so no
glory for those who are vain.
Go away, selfish one, your work here is done!
You can see you're your best company;
don't be stunned when with God you are shunned!
You may be a king or a pauper or both, you may
give for attention to gain;
Until you surrender it all to the Lord, you are
doomed to have suffering and pain.
Until you surrender you're just a pretender,
Until you come to the cross and die too, you'll
get what is coming to you.

2 For
people will be lovers
of self, lovers of money,
proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents,
ungrateful, unholy,
3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without
self-control,
brutal, not loving good,
4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit,
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.
Avoid such people.
2 Timothy 3:2-5
