As the current administration has yet to hold anyone responsible for the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups, it seems that the IRS is still dragging their feet. In an effort to hasten the process, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has since taken to suing the IRS to obtain the information they requested almost a year ago.
According to the GOP website, “Today the Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for withholding records sought by the RNC’s 2013 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.”
It goes on to share that the FOIA request was made on May 21, 2013 for information that could shed light onto who is responsible for the targeting of Tea Party groups. Expressing their frustration, the statement goes on to read, “The RNC believes the undue delay in producing the requested documents is unacceptable and inexcusable, given that many of these documents have been already produced to other requesting entities.”
Seeing how the RNC has remained adamant in the request for such information, they state that, “Over the course of the last 226 business days, the IRS requested several extensions in order to complete the RNC’s request, but has yet to present the information.”
