Time for a Select Committee on Benghazi

A new letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) demands answers on Benghazi—not a website that demonstrates the “inadequacies” of what the House has done to uncover the truth about what happened on September 11, 2012. “Most Americans, in addition to a large majority of your party’s caucus, demand a full and complete investigation of this terror attack,” write the authors.

In contrast, President Obama, in a recent pre-Super Bowl interview with Bill O’Reilly, asserted that the Fox News Channel was keeping scandals alive through inflammatory reporting. “These kinds of things keep on surfacing in part because you and your TV station will promote them,” he said. “…and they believe it because folks like you are telling them that,” he said regarding Benghazi. As AIM has reported earlier, President Obama has long argued that this is one of many “phony” scandals plaguing his administration.

Recent media developments fueled this letter to Speaker Boehner, including revelations that former Acting CIA Director Michael Morell may have misled Congress regarding the genesis and revision of the infamous talking points. And former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice, now National Security Advisor to the President, recently said on “Meet the Press” that she had no regrets regarding her five Sunday talk-show performances in 2012—even though she misled the American people and blamed a YouTube video for nonexistent spontaneous protests. In reality, a terrorist attack involving members of al Qaeda and al Qaeda-linked groups had taken place. “In addition to these new concerns about potentially false and misleading testimony and information being provided to Congress, there are a host of other Benghazi-related questions that remain unanswered,” write the authors, several of whom come from Accuracy in Media’s Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi.
