Growing Big Government

Politics in Arkansas has taken on an interesting but disturbing trend. The trend it is taking is following the Washington DC mindset that there is such a thing as Conservative Big Government, when in actuality there is no such thing. Big Government is a liberal belief that governments role is to fix things. Nothing can be further from the truth.


Big government begins with an idea which is likened to an apple seed. By itself the apple seed does nothing and becomes nothing. But once the apple seed finds fertile ground (the legislature) it slowly but surely grows to quite a substantial size with little more help than sunshine and water. In order to stop big government we must first stop big government ideas. Government’s right and proper role is to protect the individual liberty of its citizen, nothing more nothing less. The reason government continues to grow is because of the idea that governments role is to provide things for its citizens by taking from one group of citizens and giving to another. Government cannot exist without redistribution of wealth earned by the sweat off the labor of its citizens

Now we have the Private Option debate going on in Arkansas and politicians are trying to figure out a “conservative” solution to a big government problem. Of course this is impossible as no such solution exists. The only way to stop Big Government is to never plant the seed. In the previous legislation they passed the enabling legislation for the Private Option. (Planting the seed) Now the Arkansas Legislature is in the fiscal session which creates the appropriation for the Private Option. (The water) You cannot stop the seed from being planted so the only solution is to stop the seed from growing by denying it the water (appropriation) it needs to grow. Even allowing a little water or even giving it enough water to begin growing will begin a process of growth that is impossible to stop.

If we can understand this simple analogy then we can also understand that any compromise legislation to limit funding for the Private Option instead of stopping its funding entirely will only begin a process that will not be stoppable. In the end the citizens of Arkansas will end up with yet another Big Government program costing its citizens their hard earned tax dollars. This will happen while our legislators do what they think is the right thing, but in the end wind up fulfilling the dreams of the liberals in government who think there is no such thing as a Bad, Big Government program. Tell your legislators to stand firm against Big Government and vote No for funding the Private Option. Tell those organizations that would have you believe that you can stop a government program once it grows to quit playing politics with the citizen’s hard earned money. Tell them to Kill the Bill or Pay the Bill!
