In the continuing ebb and flow of politics, we notice how increasingly
illiberal progressive socialism is becoming. Intolerant. Hateful. And just plain
mean. Latest on the radar screen is Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and his remark
concerning the kind of people his state would welcome. Not everybody. Only the
right kind of people.
It was just a few months
ago that we heard such an expression during the election campaign for Lt.
Governor of Virginia. With regard to people whose opinions were different from
his on certain issues, there was no place for those people in the state,
according to the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor. “There’s no
place for them in the [Virginia state] Senate. And there’s no place for them in
Virginia.” said then state Senator now Lt. Governor Ralph S.
Northam.
Of course, the Democratic Party has
always been the party of exclusion. The party willing to decide who does and who
doesn't have rights. After all, while Republicans believe rights come from God,
Democrats believe that rights come from the state. Thus, back in the old days,
the Democrats wondered whether there was any room for people of the negro race
in this country. They spoke to this matter in the Dred Scot decision: "It
[citizenship] would give to persons of the negro race, ...the right to enter
every other State whenever they pleased." Therefore, no citizenship for black
people. This decision was, directly, the cause for the formation of the
Republican Party. Admittedly, the Democrats have done a complete 180 on who
should be excluded. While we, in the Republican Party, continue to believe that
whatever are our rights, they are given to us by God, and given equally to all
of us. Our view is the individual rights view. Their view is the states rights
view.
