Obama Expected to Sign Bill

Dear Members and Friends,

The US Senate has joined the House in approving the Ryan/Murray Budget Deal.

Obama Expected to Sign Bill
Nine Republicans joined all 55 Democrats to pass the measure and President Obama is expected to sign it into law.  In the tri-state region, only Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) voted against the controversial budget deal.

While we are disappointed with the final vote, we are not surprised by the outcome.

We thank all of you who contacted your Senators and US House member.

If you wish to feel slightly better about the vote, please read Larry
Kudlow's outstanding commentary, as well as a Wall Street Journal opinion piece (both found below).

They discuss the merits, as well as the defects, of the bill.

To understand just how contentious this bill is among conservatives, please read the following dueling Weekly Standard statements issued by Bill Kristol and Fred Barnes.

In a center/right coalition, we must learn to respect divergent points of view without becoming unhinged.  The one thing we should all oppose is an outright 'civil war' on the right.

NJ Assembly Presents Christie with an Early Christmas Present
The New Jersey Assembly is expected to approve a Senate Bill, tomorrow, which would extend reduced in-state tuition rates to children of illegal immigrants.  The bill also contains a host of financial aid packages which Governor Chris Christie does not support.

Despite a campaign promise to sign a Dream Act into law, the Governor has since promised to veto the Democrat bill because of its budget-busting spending.   What a Scrooge!

Governor Christie won over 50% of the Latino vote in his race for governor.   Many think he did so solely due to his promise to sign a Dream Act.

But the Democrat Legislature, whose legislative control Christie guaranteed by running a bi-partisan-themed re-election campaign, is foiling Christie's political overtures to the Latino community.

It's clear that NJ Democrat leaders are also out to undercut Christie's bid for the Republican nomination by embarrassing him into vetoing the budget-buster.

If only Christie had campaigned harder to win the Senate and the Assembly for the Republicans (not an unachievable goal in a landslide victory like he won), the Governor would be sitting pretty.  Oh well, that's vintage Christie.

Take Action

If you live in Jersey, please call Governor Christie @ 609-292-6000.  Urge

him to keep his most recent promise--a promise to veto the Dream Act which will arrive on his desk just in time for Christmas.  A special gift to the Jersey taxpayer.
