The Foggy Bottom Theater of Scandal just keeps producing.
Lois Lerner got another letter today from Congressmen Darrell Issa and Jim Jordan. The dynamic duo found somewhere in that stack of redacted documents Issa stood over a couple weeks ago while guilting acting IRS Director Danny Werfel that the Lady Lois sent IRS documents to a personal email account. Obviously, where the documents went after that and what Lerner said about them and to whom is a mystery.
Issa and Jordan want to know what happened to the documents and emails AFTER they got to Lerner’s personal account.
So would any employer.
Information that is privileged or uses official documents, doesn’t matter where one works, really should be only sent through official email accounts. Especially when one works with confidential information. A lot of us have work emails hooked into our personal accounts, but that is with permission of our employers, and the understanding that work correspondence uses the work email address so that it can be searched through a work server when downloaded to a work computer. That’s the ground rules.
Lois Lerner was a Director of an IRS division. That means her email is part of the official record of a government agency. Sending sensitive correspondence to a private email is beyond questionable, and somewhat stupid. It looks like Lerner trying to hide something.
(Maybe more of why she wants immunity?)
Without doubt that’s what Issa and Jordan are trying to find out. In an effort to be as transparent as possible, unlike those they are investigating, the pair published the letter they sent to Lerner today on the House of Representatives website. Among other details, the honorable gentlemen set a deadline of August 27 for the delivery of the emails…IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT.
(It’s the greenest option, after all. And none of those stacks of redacted paper that can be manipulated with stripped columns and headers.)
And with the electronic format, they want all the file properties. Indexed.
(For those who are not techies, that’s the info of who created the file, where it went, when, etc.)
Many of us use email at work to CYA, with the date, time stamp and all that. Lerner…no, Issa and Jordan are not likely to kiss that part of her anatomy.
We’ll see where this one goes.
P.s. It’s not really the letter that’s worth reading, it’s the four pages of instructions that are attached. HERE
