House Republicans hold
immigration meeting
Tell Rep. Frank
A. LoBiondo to reject the Senate amnesty
bill!
Dear Friends,
This afternoon,
House Republicans plan to privately discuss their next steps on the provisions of S 744, the
amnesty bill that passed the Senate, laying out plans for potential
legislation with heavy discussion on border security.
It's rumored that
they will highlight legislation introduced in the House Judiciary Committee to
"address various issues that have contributed to the broken system," including
the SAFE Act, which would allow states to create and enforce their own
immigration laws.
Speaker Boehner,
while critical of the Senate bill, has given mixed messages about whether he
would allow a vote on the bill without the support of a majority of House
Republicans. Generally, he has indicated that he will not, but there is a real
danger that he could be pressured into a face-saving maneuver that puts the bill
to a floor vote. If so, amnesty proponents are confident that they can pick off
enough Republican votes to pass the Senate amnesty bill.
Thank
you!
