Aw, poor O. When it rains, it pours. |
The man – savior, to millions – who was going to stop the oceans’ rise and heal the planet; who was going to change the discourse of American politics as we knew it; who was going to restore the “lost” respect for America – is now viewed by a majority of us as untrustworthy.
I don’t know whether to say it couldn't happen to a nicer guy or it’s about time.
Yes, America, a new survey released today by CNN/ORC shows Barack Hussein Obama with a 45% approval rating – down from 53% just a month ago – with 54% of us disapproving off how he is doing his job.
Better yet (or, “Worse yet”, depending on your political persuasion), the survey found that while 49% of Americans think Obama is honest, 50% of us do not believe that the President of the United State is
worthy of our trust.
worthy of our trust.
This news is even worse for Obama than most people realize. This guy could set George Bush on fire, paint the White House red and declare himself a communist – and 80% or more of the 49% would still be just as fired up about the community organizer as ever. (See: Obamabots)
In an encouraging sign for Republicans as they look to the 2014 midterms and beyond, Obama has lost substantial ground among Independents, with 37% approval and 61% disapproval – down by more than 20 points from last month.
Obviously, despite the best efforts of the
- Sixty-one percent of those surveyed disapprove of Obama’s handling of the surveillance of U.S. citizens, with 35% approving.
- Forty-three percent say Obama has gone too far in restricting civil liberties in the fight against terrorism, with 38% saying he has struck a proper balance.
- More troublesome for Obama, 62% of Americans believe the government has collected their own private phone or internet data, compared to only 34% who say it has not.
As they say, a month – let alone a year or two – is a lifetime in politics. Still, it doesn't appear that there will be light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon for Barack Obama, as Scandalpalooza is likely to drag on for months.
Besides, if that light does come – sooner than expected – it could very well be an oncoming freight train. One can only hope.
