Federal
agent John Dodson says what he was asked to do was beyond belief.
He
was intentionally letting guns go to Mexico?
"Yes
ma'am," Dodson told CBS News. "The agency was."
An
Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in
2010, Dodson's job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he
says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen.
Investigators
call the tactic letting guns "walk." In this case, walking into the hands of
criminals who would use them in Mexico and the United States.
The
ATF claims it was to build a case against gun traffickers.
Um,
no.
It
was because the line they were using to build a stronger case for gun control
was proven
to be a lie:
You've
heard this shocking "fact" before -- on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the
Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons
used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the United States.
...
There's
just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:
It's just not true.
In fact, it's not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
It's just not true.
In fact, it's not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
Despite
the facts, the President keeps repeating this lie, hoping
Lenin was right.
We
recognize that most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from
the United States. In America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right
to bear arms, and as President I swore an oath to uphold that right—and I always
will. At the same time, as I’ve said back home, I will continue to do everything
in my power to pass common sense gun reforms that keep guns out of the hands of
dangerous people—reforms that will save lives in both our countries. Meanwhile,
we’ll keep increasing the pressure on the gun traffickers who bring
illegal guns into Mexico, and we’ll keep putting these criminals where they
belong—behind bars.
Fast
and Furious was designed to create mayhem in Mexico. It's the most successful
operation to come out of the Obama administration.
With
the latest whistleblower coming forward to say he was ordered to let guns walk,
this scandal could have legs again.
But
then, it
was a long time ago.
