What?!? Congressional Leaders Seek Exemption From ObamaCare

From the You Knew This Was Coming department: Congressional leaders in both chambers are quietly negotiating with the Regime in an attempt to exempt members of Congress and their aides from the ObamaCare mandate with which us common folk will be forced to comply. From Politico:

Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.
The talks – which involve Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Obama administration and other top lawmakers – are extraordinarily sensitive, with both sides acutely aware of the potential for political fallout from giving carve-outs from the hugely controversial law to 535 lawmakers and thousands of their aides. Discussions have stretched out for months, sources said.

Shocked? Me neither.
Lawmakers are concerned that if their healthcare premiums – and those of their staffers – are not subsidized by their employer (the federal government) their premiums will increase by thousands of dollars. I hate to play Mr. Obvious here, but have these people been paying the least bit of attention to the cost increase projections for the rest of us? Healthcare premiums in many states are expected to double, with California residents’ premiums expected to increase by over 80%.

It’s often said that perception is more important than fact. While we all want to contain our health insurance costs, are these people really so out of touch that they fail to realize the perception this creates? Are they that clueless – or do they just not give a damn?
Once again, Washington politicians are telling us loud and clear: What’s good for thee – is not necessarily good for me. We’ve come to expect this sort of blatant hypocrisy from the Democrats, but from John Boehner and the House leadership? Oh – wait – never mind.
Earlier today, as the Politico story spread,
political hackSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid
lieddenied that he supported the congressional exemption. Harry, where there’s smoke, there’s fire – particularly when politicians are involved.

It will be interesting to see who throws whom under the bus in the next few days.
