Boycott Melissa and Doug Toys

I have always bought and encouraged my family to buy toys from Melissa and Doug for my grandchildren because of the high quality or their toys and most importantly because they were manufactured in the USA.  Imagine my chagrin upon finding out that they are now among the many companies who manufacture their toys in China!  These toys are not cheap; but I always felt that since they were being produced here it was worth it.

Now, the company is a very wealthy one, and can well afford to bring their products back here for manufacturing, bringing much needed jobs back to the USA.  However, when challenged by a distributor recently, they just brushed them off. Needless to say, this distributor no longer sells their products.

Below I’ve listed their contact information, along with some general information about them,  and I’m asking for everyone to contact them and insist they bring the manufacturing back here and letting them know you will no longer support them if they don't.  If our companies don't or won't support our country, then we shouldn't be supporting them!

Over 24 years ago we started our company in the garage of the home where Doug grew up — we had to be careful not to disturb Doug's parents who were still living there! Thanks to your support, we've been able to move into a real office down the road, a building that actually has separate ladies and men's bathrooms! Our philosophy has remained the same over the years–to make each and every customer a happy and permanent member of the Melissa & Doug family, while offering products with tremendous value, quality and design. Our line offers something for everyone with over 2,000 innovative products for children of all ages! We've always welcomed customer suggestions, and we continually strive to make improvements to our products. We're honored by the faith you place in us and view it as our responsibility to continue to earn your trust in the years to come!

  1. IT'S A LOT WORST THAN YOU THINK.

I recently met with a job applicant that attended an all-day interview at Melissa and Doug and was shocked to learn that they do not tell their customers about credits on their accounts. They also seemed to intentionally ship the wrong quantity and then try to get customers to keep them by offering extended payment terms.

I have filed a complaint with the FTC and am reaching out to stores that may have experienced this type of dishonesty from them. If you have ever sent them a return, I suggest you call your rep to make sure your credits have been applied to your account. You could have many credits that have accumulated over the years, but your nice friendly rep will not be able to inform you unless you ask.

Please help the FTC with their review of my complaint by sharing with them any dishonest business practices by Melissa and Doug. The FTC number is 877-382-4357 and the reference number assign to this complaint is 41735551

They were also fined yesterday on 11-15 for not keeping proper records on their employees. You can read the story on The Hour.
