WHAT’S A CHRISTIAN TO DO ABOUT THE ELECTIONS?

Rev. Bill Banuchi

We’re facing the most consequential election of our lifetime. It’s not about two parties, or two personalities. It’s about two futures for America. It reminds me of Yogi Berra’s famous quote,
“When you come to the fork in the road, take it.” Note, he forgot to mention which way to go, left or right? And so it will be for us on November 8th.

If we choose to go to the left, I am convinced you can say goodbye to the exceptionally favored America we once knew. Why? Not because of Hillary’s emails, or her pathology of lying and scheming, but because we will be turning away from the God who has blessed us with a peace and prosperity unseen in all of world history.

The election of Hillary Clinton will mark the entrenchment of a new national religion--the religion of Secular Humanism. No longer will we be a nation that acknowledges the God of the Bible as the ultimate authority in our national life. We will displace His sovereign authority with the authority of human judgment. The Bible will be discarded as an ancient relic, and ultimately so will the Constitution, until only the contemporary reasoning of man-or woman-will determine right and wrong.

This is nothing new. This is the prevailing ideology of every tyrannical government that has existed throughout world history. In effect, man sets himself up as God. We will fulfill the prophetic warnings spoken by national leaders of our history like President Lincoln who taught us that,
“..it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God…and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”
And more recently, President Ronald Reagan warned us;
“…And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure."
If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.

Hillary Clinton would set herself up as a god, relegating our Judeo-Christian moral code to the ash heap of history. She has said herself at the Women of the World Summit in 2015,
“And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.”
In other words, no longer will we acknowledge the God of the Bible as our Supreme lawgiver; from now on we will judge, and dictate what is right and what is wrong. She forgets here--or perhaps consciously rejects--the admonitions of Democratic Presidents of our history like JFK who told us,
“…the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”
Is Donald Trump God’s choice to save America? I confess, I don’t know all of God’s ways, but here is what I do know. God has used the most unlikely men to accomplish His will in the earth, often “confounding the wisdom of the wise.”

In the Old Testament He used men like King Cyrus, who many modern-day prophets are comparing to Donald Trump. In the New Testament we see how God used the Apostle Paul, the most influential personality in the establishment of the Church who had previously been a murderer of Christians. It’s been said that if Jesus, himself, walked into most of today’s churches he probably would be shunned because He didn’t look the part.

So it may be with Trump. It would be, in fact, consistent with the character of God to choose “the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.”

Look at it this way. If you needed brain surgery, would you choose an expert surgeon with lousy bedside manner, or one who had great bedside manner, but who was an incompetent surgeon? I see that as the choice we’re facing.

Those Republicans who will not support Trump demonstrate a most shallow dedication to republican principles. They would allow a man’s history of ugly, but harmless behavior, to override the need to secure the hope of a better America.

Consider the Supreme Court, illegal immigration, world trade, the economy and more. To surrender these issues and the future of our nation over an eleven year old offense is to demonstrate a lack of depth of understanding of the deeper currents that guide the future of a nation.

National Christian leaders like Franklin Graham, James Dobson and others, who understand human nature and the saving and redeeming grace of God have come out in support of Trump, because they know that a man’s past is not an indictment of his future. From all physical evidence we have, Donald Trump has expressed a sincere faith in Jesus Christ, and has established a spiritual advisory council of born-again, Spirit-filled Christian leaders to hold him accountable to the dictates of his professed Christian faith.

Hillary, on the other hand, is “the devil we know.” No person can claim to be a “Christian” who says people of faith must submit to the higher authority of the State. She is, in fact, a Secular Humanist, like Barack Obama, people who set their own understanding of “social justice” as the highest authority to which all other authorities must be submitted, even the authority of the Church.

They will use religion to advance their own secular agenda, in effect, setting themselves up as gods. Admittedly, there are no guarantees, but nevertheless, we know that with Donald Trump we will at least have a chance, whereas with Hillary, our fate will be set.

Our children will grow up in a country no longer enjoying the blessings of liberty that come from being “One Nation Under God.” The choice before us is as history has always presented to a people. “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil,"--Deuteronomy 30:15. We cannot claim ignorance.

It is clearly set before us in the history of Israel and other nations and clearly stated by Lincoln as he referred to Scripture when he said,
“…those nations are only blessed whose God is The Lord.’
The choice in November will be a choice between God’s judgment on our land, or His mercy to give us more time to right our national wrongs and to be, once again, that “city upon a hill” to a world in desperate need of hope. Let’s pray that America makes the right choice for the benefit of our posterity and God’s glory.

Rev. Banuchi’s passion has always been to see the Church rise up to impact the culture for the biblical values that have produced the greatest nation in the world. “For too long,” he says, “we have been singing God Bless America, and He has; it’s time we turned it around and started singing, and living a life that says, ‘America, bless God!’”

We invite all who have a concern for coming generations to join us and be part of a movement to bring godly values back into the life of our nation. You will be informed, equipped and inspired to do your part to see America once again be One Nation Under God.
