The Great Seal:

On July 4,1776 Congress designed a Great Seal by a three man committee. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams: 1) Jefferson proposed a painting with the Israelites in the wilderness guided by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. 2) Franklin suggested the national motto to be: “REBELLION TO TYRANTS IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD!” 3) Adams emblazoned on an official seal depicting Moses parting the Red Sea for the Exodus to Liberty!” March 2,1778. *The hand of Providence has been so conspicuous in all this that he must be worse than an infidel and more than wicked that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations.” This was George Washington’s comments on the fortunes of the United States war for Independence.
