Ted Cruz and the Lost Art of Political Discussion

Yesterday the internet erupted with thoughts on Ted Cruz’s 21 hour speech outlining Obamacare’s threats to American life and politics. Whatever the effects of Cruz’s 21 hour speech, his words speak to the common American citizen, frustrated with the insular, self absorbed world of Washington elitism. Cruz talks plainly and addresses the politically disenfranchised American public by appealing to common sense and self evident truth with facts, letters, and personal stories about the perils of Obamacare.

This is the third contribution to ISI’s symposium, Conservatism: What’s Wrong with It and How Can We Make It Right?
If Russell Kirk was right in saying that conservatism is a disposition, not a program, then one should not presume to lecture one’s fellows on the way in which it ought to head.  I offer the following thoughts, then, not as a program, but as one conservative scholar’s considered stance concerning some of the most important issues of our time.

Roots, Limits, and Love

This is the second contribution to ISI’s symposium, Conservatism: What’s Wrong with it and How Can We Make it Right?
In one sense, there is nothing wrong with conservatism. The principles remain; reality has not changed. The problem lies in the fact that what passes for conservatism today is not conservative at all or at best a shadowy and distorted version of the real thing. The so-called conservatism promoted by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh is (when a coherent thread presents itself) a fairly standard litany of pro-growth, pro-war individualism, that claims to despise “Big Government” while championing the upward mobility of the most talented and energetic. These ideas, and the policies they spawn, are not conservative.

Thanks To Obamacare, Employer-Based Health Insurance Is Becoming An Endangered Species

by Michael Snyder

Barack Obama promised to fundamentally transform America, and when it comes to health care he has definitely kept his promise.  Thanks to Obamacare, health care spending is up, health insurance premiums are up, the number of hours Americans are working is down and employer-based health insurance is becoming an endangered species.  Of course employer-based health insurance will not disappear completely any time soon, but it has been steadily shrinking for over a decade, and Obamacare will greatly accelerate that decline.  If you goback to 1999, 64.1 percent of all Americans were covered by employment-based health insurance.  That was pretty good.  Today, only 54.9 percent of all Americans are covered by employment-based health insurance, and now thousands upon thousands of U.S. employers are considering reducing the scope of the health plans they offer to employees or eliminating them altogether due to Obamacare.  If you are thinking that this sounds like a potential nightmare for millions of Americans families, you would be exactly right.

Under ObamaCare, Doctor's Visits Will Be Interrogations

If you think the Obama health law is only for the uninsured and you won't be affected, you're in for a surprise next time you go to the doctor. Be prepared for questions unrelated to why you are seeking medical help — questions that you don't want to answer.

ObamaCare Employer Mandate: A List Of Cuts To Work Hours, Jobs

By

ObamaCare's impact on jobs is hotly debated by politicians and economists. Critics say the Affordable Care Act, with its employer mandate to provide health insurance, gives businesses an incentive to cut workers' hours. This year, report after report has rolled in about employers restricting work hours to fewer than 30 per week — the point where the mandate kicks in. Data also point to a record low workweek in low-wage industries.

In the interest of an informed debate, we've compiled a list of job actions with strong proof that ObamaCare's employer mandate is behind cuts to work hours or staffing levels. As of Sept. 25, our ObamaCare scorecard included 313 employers. Here's our latest analysis, focusing on cuts to adjunct hours at nearly 200 college campuses. The ObamaCare list methodology is explained further in our initial coverage; click on the employer names in the list below for links to supporting records, mostly news accounts or official documents.

We'll continue to update the list, which we encourage you to share and download into a spreadsheet to sort and analyze. If you know of an employer that should be on the list and can provide supporting evidence, please contact IBD at jed.graham@investors.com.

Moderate Republicans Finally Found Someone They Will Fight… Other Republicans

The Republican establishment led by such folks as Senators Mitch McConnell and John McCain don’t want to fight the Democrats. But after this latest Obamacare funding fight, we have discovered that there is a side they will attack: other Republicans.
Those Republicans who voted “yes” on Friday’s cloture vote in the Senate knowingly voted in favor of funding Obamacare. There is no other way around that simple truth.

Neil Cavuto Slams Obamacare And Obama

U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama is not new to blaming others for shortcomings in his actions or his administration’s failed policies. Recently, he blamed Fox News for drawing negative attention to his socialistic style healthcare reform known as ObamaCare.

Harry Reid’s Three Card Monte

It was as if Ted Cruz scripted the whole Harry Reid carnival sideshow on Friday.

As he and Rush Limbaugh predicted, the House voted on a continuing resolution (CR) to temporarily fund the government but stripped out funding for Obamacare, then passed the CR on to the Senate for a vote. Without funding, Obamacare would be DOA.

Why is Obamacare so unaffordable? Because it was conceived as a political weapon of mass economic destruction

by Mike Adams, Natural News

Right now, all across America, employees are receiving notices that their insurance coverage is being dropped because it isn’t “compliant” with Obamacare. Simultaneously, employers everywhere are slashing jobs, cutting hours and downsizing their operations just to stay afloat by avoiding the most punishing requirements of Obamacare. Across the economy, Obamacare is devastating American workers and casting tens of millions of people into a state of despair.

Obama: ‘Extreme faction’ of GOP risks govt. shutdown over Obamacare dispute

With the government headed for a shutdown in three days, President Obama told Americans Saturday that an “extreme faction” of the House GOP is risking an economic calamity to torpedo his health-care law.
“In the next couple days, these Republicans will have to decide whether to join the Senate and keep the government open, or create a crisis that will hurt people for the sole purpose of advancing their ideological agenda,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address.

Obama's Weakly Whining Saturday Address

The White House
September 28, 2013

Hi, everybody.  This Tuesday is an important day for families, businesses, and our economy.
It’s the day a big part of the Affordable Care Act kicks in, and tens of millions of Americans will finally have the same chance to buy quality, affordable health care as everyone else.
It’s also the day that a group of far-right Republicans in Congress might choose to shut down the government and potentially damage the economy just because they don’t like this law.
I’ll get to that in a second.  But first – here’s what the Affordable Care Act means for you.

MY GUESS AS TO THE IDENTITY OF THE ANTICHRIST

I do not believe it is possible to know for absolute certain, the identity of the Beast of Revelation 13:1-10, but, just as there were dozens of "clues" in the Old Testament prophecies as to the identity of Israel's Christ, there is one man living today, who appears to "fit the bill" when it comes to the future Antichrist.  See what you think.

House Republicans lack votes to move plan to raise debt ceiling

By Russell Berman, Bernie Becker and Erik Wasson

House Republican leaders found themselves struggling to secure the votes on Thursday for a debt-ceiling measure they hoped to pass swiftly through the House as the latest salvo in a multifront fiscal fight.
In a closed-door meeting, the leaders outlined to their members a proposal that would demand a laundry list of Republican priorities in exchange for a yearlong suspension of the nation’s $16.7 trillion borrowing limit. The centerpiece of the plan is a one-year delay of President Obama’s signature healthcare law.
But hours after the meeting, the party had yet to release the legislation formally, and conservatives complained that it lacked specific spending cuts and failed to tackle entitlement reform.

The Government’s Endless Orgy Of Spending

I frequently marvel that a loon like Nancy Pelosi could have become Speaker of the House and is currently the House minority leader. Recently she said, “The cupboard is bare. There’s no more cuts to make. It’s really important that people understand that. We cannot have cuts just for the sake of cuts.”
This is dishonesty on a galactic scale. It also provides an insight into why, short of the mandatory sequestration that went into effect last year when Congress could not come to any agreement on any cuts, the government continues to spend money in ways that are just short of criminal.

So what is Cruz’s strategy?

See how senator still plans to derail Obamacare

The battle may be over but the war on Obamacare goes on.
The Senate voted on Friday to restore funding to Obamacare, but Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas has just begun to fight.
Critics accuse Cruz, of having no real plan to defund Obamacare and say he’s just grandstanding to promote himself and his career.
But the senator went to great lengths to spell out a highly detailed “multi-stage” strategy he said has been in the works for months, and WND was there when he revealed it to a small group of reporters in a conference call Thursday.
Cruz made it evident he is motivated by one fact.
