PLAY BALL…UH, POLITICS!

Re Blogged from  The Constitution Club

Okay, politically incorrect break over.  For the youngins who've never seen The Bad News Bears, check it out.  Funny, with a better use of Bizet than the actual opera (Carmen).
Tanner was ahead of his time.  Today, we’d call him a TEA Partier.  Why? Because he was impatient, called things like he saw them whether it was true or not, and didn’t appreciate the concept of strategy.

Not that he didn’t feel it in his heart….
This is about where we are on the political “right,” at least we of the armchair quarterback variety (oh, wait, I was in a baseball metaphor), make that armchair managers.  The peanut gallery in the bleachers is anxious for a pitching change, because the leadership isn't throwing high heat.  Never mind that the team has scouted the opposition and knows without a doubt that the guy standing in the box can go yard off of anything above the belt – and what’s more, the ump will squeeze the strike zone to help him out.
In other words, go too pure on an opponent who has home field advantage AND partial judges, rather than making the other side work to make you look bad, and you’re going to get clobbered.  Oh, and by the way, victory must be accomplished with a lowered pitching mound and don’t violate the infield fly rule.
Look, people of the American political right who are getting frustrated with Republican leadership over a variety of issues, and are cheering on the Ted Cruz/Rand Paul/Mike Lee and sometimes Marco Rubio noisemakers, all is not as simple as “Go after and arrest Lois Lerner and Eric Holder” and “just shut-down the government rather than fund ObamaCare.”
In the case of the Theater of Scandal principals not being arrested yet, EVIDENCE – hard evidence – must be gathered against the suspects before any arrests can be made.  That is the process that is playing out – V-E-R-Y-S-L-O-W-L-Y – right now.  In legal terms, it’s called Discovery, and charges should not be filed until the process is complete.  That’s the way it is done in the world of law.  Yes, it is agonizingly slow, and the various government departments are deliberately obstructing the process, but without the evidence that proves a subject guilty, there is no clear picture of what to charge them with.  That’s the system we have in place.  If we want it to work for ourselves when we are under a microscope, then we have to respect the system when the opposition is being examined, even if they are lying, guilty leftists who are slow-rolling and dragging their feet.
And don’t think that the Republican leadership is happy about this, because all indications are they are not.
When it comes to a possible government shutdown rather than fund ObamaCare, in principle, it sounds great, but there are a lot of the old guard around (the Speaker of the House is one) who participated the last time the GOP shut down the government in 1995 which was part of the Newt Gingrich “Contract with America.”  To put it mildly, as a result, the right paid a horrible political price for that action, one that they have not quite recovered from.  It might be worth revisiting that time to refresh some memories.  Newt Gingrich, a political hero to many, resigned for the good of the party because he had become a target.  This year, the sequester ended up being a Republican victory.  Rather than accept and expand upon it, there are calls for a shutdown.  A shutdown would be a disaster, and it would be hung like a millstone on each and every GOP AND TEA Party neck and most likely labelled “childish.”
Many of the current contingent GOP are self made men, and didn’t get where they are by being stupid and short sighted with faulty memories.  At the moment, the GOP is holding together thanks to some explanations behind closed doors.  It would be nice if they would share that with the rest of us.  The bleachers would be more likely to buy the “it’s a bad idea to shut down the government” concept if there was a decent explanation as to why other than “politics.”  As it is, the people got their wish with the demise of entitlements, and with it went a lot of negotiating leverage.  Several sources have said that.  It would be nice if that could be explained as well.  (This is the lowering of the mound referenced above.)
So, we could quit griping about no strikeouts and be happy with ground balls and the occasional double play.  An out is an out.  A political victory, is a victory.  Doesn’t have to be the result of a walk-off grand slam.
There are no GOP fingerprints on ObamaCare and the more bills the House sends to the Senate to repeal or defund the thing, the better.  They are not just not trying.  The bills are dying in the Senate, and that IS something that can be legitimately held against the other side.
Once charges are FINALLY filed against the gang of crooks currently flipping off the House Investigation teams, expect “Obstruction of Justice” and “Lying to Congress” to be among them.  Not only are the scandals real, the crap is incredibly immature, and it’s not going unnoticed OR undocumented.
Yes, it is frustrating that in a short window, the left swung for the fences while juiced and amassed a huge lead.  Remember, though, that pressing and swinging for those same fences when every pitch is off the plate is going to do nothing but produce Ks.  Calling them won’t be necessary.  The GOP leadership wants to play small ball to chip away at the lead, and as one very famous player once said, “It ain't over ‘til it’s over.”
It ain't over.
BTW, there are no fat ladies in Bizet’s Carmen.
