Yesterday Mike Rowe, the star of the show Dirty Jobs, spoke at an event for Mitt Romney in Ohio. His segment begins at 6:30 in the video below. Rowe was there to talk about jobs.
“We have unintentionally disconnected ourselves in a really fundamental way from the most important part of our workforce. I’m talking about the men and women who make civilized life possible for the rest of us.The people who keep the lights on, the people who allow the toilets to work, the people who pick up road kill, the people who pave the bridges, the people who farm, the people who mine, those are the heroes of Dirty Jobs.”Later he talked about how parents need to stop taking choices off the table for their children.
“What I really do believe is that we can’t just talk about opportunity and we can’t just talk about training… The conversation needs to start in the kitchen, around the table, with moms and dads and kids. When these kids start to think about what’s possible, mothers and fathers can’t immediately push options off of the table because they’ve bought into the idea that some jobs are better than other jobs. … There’s got to be a better way to be happy and successful in your career than simply assuming a massive amount of debt and exiting an educational program that gives you a degree without training.”Watch:
