Some
may think that I hate our current President. I don't hate President Obama.
I could never hate the man. It is not his fault he is in the
position of power that he is in. It is ours. The American people.
I
don't hate the American people. I love them. I understand them.
With
that said, I also understand the position that is the Presidency of the United
States of America. I understand the backroom deals that must happen on a
daily basis. I understand the weight that power puts on the bearer of
those in power. I understand how they must lie, cheat, steal, manipulate
and even kill in order to stay in power.
Power
is nothing more than a drug. It can consume a person not unlike heroin or
even marijuana. It’s addictive. It’s all consuming. Many
humans cannot control it. Indeed, most of us cannot control it.
Once we taste it, power, we want more. It is amazing that there are
those who do not want power. They will do anything to avoid power.
Yes,
there are those who can wield power without getting drunk. There are
those who can willingly let go of power without being forced in some fashion to
give it up.
Those
are the people we want to elect to run our government.
Those
are the people who were like many of our Founders. Some of them were
coerced even forced into power. George Washington didn't want to be King.
He turned down the ultimate power. How fitting he was elected as
our nation’s first President. He also turned down a third term.
Surely he would have been elected if he chose to run. But, he was a
man that was not drunk with power and was not corrupted by power and, indeed,
did not want power.
How
many of us could honestly say we would do the same if we were in the same
position? Honestly.
Power,
no matter how limited, can be intoxicating. It can consume. It can
consume completely. As history has proven.
This
is not me making excuses for our current Chief Executive. Actually, its
is a complete and total reason to condemn him. Condemn completely and
fully. He is drunk with power. He is drunk with his own brilliance.
He is drunk period.
Knowing
this, one has to ask, what do We the People, want in our next president?
Indeed, as some suggest, will we even get to decide or will this current
office holder become so drunk that he finds a way to extend his stay? It
would not surprise me.
But
then, someone once said, you get the leadership you deserve. So by
electing this man twice to high office, is that proof that We the People
deserve what we get?
Absolutely.
