Enough is Enough! Make your goddamn voices heard!
It is HIGH time for people to make their voices heard, outside of the tea party supporters, that is. Remaining complacent and not looking reality in the face, will NOT help you, it will work against you. We are witnessing a very strong movement from the right of the political spectrum - and yes, there is a difference between right wing and left wing movements, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. As long as these movements, at least within the contraints of government, are actually competing against each other, then perhaps a true center can be reached, where power shifts from right to left, without any type of entrenchment either way. But this is NOT what is going on today, in the US: the entire political spectrum has been moving to the right, for at least the last three decades.
There is no point, in having a two party system, when their ideology merges at every turn. The entire reason for democracy is to have opposing viewpoints and deal with them.
Some people like to point out, that the US is not a Democracy, but a Republic. I would counter, there are many Republics, including the Republic of China. All these phrases and definitions amount to empty phrases, when translated into reality. Our own founding fathers were constantly in disagreement with each other, and our Constitution was NOT PERFECT. This is precisely, why it was written in such a way, as to allow for amendments, because it was not supposed to be a document written in stone, as some of the current fundie supporters of the Constitution would like to see it.
Our founding fathers, despite all their flaws, at least recognized, that change is inevitable, and they did not view their documents as beyond reproach. Furthermore, and in contrast to the beliefs of tea partiers, most of our so-called founding fathers, where themselves part of an 'intellectual' elite - many of them spoke more than one language, something which is dismissed by the Glenn Beck crowd, as being 'politically correct'. In fact, many of our founding fathers had a keen interest in science, and not just religion. Thus, they put a provision in there, establishing the right to believe, but without FORCE to believe in anything, via the government.
