The essence of American terms of citizenship, government and ideas has been expressed in many ways by many persons. Here are a few quotations which help tell the story of the people and the nation. "Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy Protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to the government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States and at large." George Washington.
"America is God's melting pot where all the races of Europe are melting and reforming." Israel Zwingli "The first requirement of a good citizen in this Republic of ours is that they shall be able and willing to pull their own weight." Ted Roosevelt
Pearl’s Poem:
What America means to me:
The dictionary won’t define America this way...but if you’d ask this heart of mine, here’s what my heart would say. “Freedom, justice; Liberty; an equal share to all; punishment must always be...for those who break God’s law. Men who fight so true and just...Down paths we’d fear to trod. Each coin engraved “in God we trust!” ...One Nation under God! Her beauty is beyond compare and words can not relate...The majesty is everywhere...through each and every state. America, I’d rather die than lose my Liberty. America, I know that’s why...you mean so much to me!
