FreedomFest – Food for Thought – The Alinsky Way

This was a fun panel. Dinesh D’Souza, Ralph Benko and David Alinsky (son of Saul Alinsky) were on a panel moderated by James O’Keefe from Project Veritas. The topic under debate was, “Saul Alinksy:  Radical Progressive or Freedom Fighter.”
You have probably heard the Alinsky name bandied around in terms of Hillary Rodham Clinton, who wrote her college thesis on him and worked with him until she realized she wanted to move on to bigger things. Obama, of course, was trained by the people Alinsky had trained in Chicago. He is famous for being part of the movement that wanted to redistribute wealth “from the haves to the have nots” by using underhand means.
Dinesh D’Souza took a dim view of Alinsky and used the analogy of the Corleone family in “The Godfather.” As his son was on the stage with him, he suggested that like Don Corleone Alinsky was probably a family man at home but he was a gangster at work. Dinesh made the point that 1960’s Democrats were committed to the same values as Republicans, such as prosperity and America’s position in the world but Alinsky was the man who changed HOW these outcomes might be affected. Under the guise and rhetoric of social justice, the left began to seize power, drive the narrative and let the ends justify the means. All the while creating a culture of incivility and corruption, encouraging lawlessness by federal, state and local governments.
  • “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” …
  • “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” …
  • “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” …
  • “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” …
  • “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
David Alinsky and Ralph Benko work at the Alinsky Centre. They protested that D’Souza was heartless and made things up about Saul. They tried to make the point that although Alinsky’s famous book “Rules for Radicals” was partially dedicated to Lucifer it didn’t mean what we think it means. They also denied the writer was a Marxist and is in fact, a conservative Lockean, while simultaneously being a lifelong Democrat. Most of the audience was confused by these conflicting statements. It took Dinesh three minutes to make his rebuttal and he wiped the floor with the opposition who had to rely on personal attacks, and in David’s case, maybe understandably, tears. He pointed out that both HRC and Obama had used Alinsky’s methods the moment they got into power but instead of using the common man, they used the power of the state to bludgeon opponents and enforce their will – while making themselves richer in the process.

Dinesh D’Souza won the motion.
